I didn’t expect to cry—but I did. Not on the long drive home from the artist retreat, but days later, when the full weight of it all finally landed.
That retreat stirred something in me. On my way home, I queued up Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert—recommended by one of the incredible women I met there—and as I wound my way across mountain passes I became enamored by her words. She spoke of ideas as living entities, searching for the right person to bring them to life. And if you don’t say yes when they come to you, they’ll move on to someone else.
That concept paired perfectly with something I’ve always believed: creativity breeds creativity. The more we create, the more we give others permission to do the same. It’s a ripple effect. And lately, I’ve been feeling those ripples everywhere.
After I returned home, one of the young men who lives at the ranch—a kind of soul who instantly felt like family—shared a poem with me. His words struck something in me, I found myself writing my own poem in response. That poem ended up pairing with a painting that had quite literally come to me in a dream.
And then something extraordinary happened: a collector of mine, someone who had asked about commissioning a piece but never quite knew what they were looking for, saw the painting and poem... and was moved to tears. It was everything they didn’t know they needed—image and words woven together, speaking directly to their soul.
That’s the magic of it. The interconnectedness. The vulnerability of sharing. The openness to inspiration, and the courage to pass it along. Art is not just something we make—it’s something we live. It's in the conversations, the poems, the dreams, the invitations, the tears. It’s in the courage to say “yes” to the spark when it arrives.
This whole past week has been heart-glowingly beautiful. From rekindled creativity to unexpected opportunities—I’ve felt so surrounded by genuine connection and the kind of soul nourishment that only art and kindred spirits can bring.
And I’m just… grateful. Overwhelmed. Lit up!
